Knowing that their new country would need a standing army to defend itself from outside threats, they wanted to ensure that no tyrants could seize control of the army and threaten individual liberty.
Under the control of leaders who had just defeated a tyrant, this new government banned itself from ever being able to infringe upon the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
Now, many would have you believe that no such right exists. Their opinions don't concern us.
